Op-ed BySteve Martin, West Hollywood, California (Thursday, January 21, 2009) The often over-heated rhetoric regarding the opening of KLEAN West Hollywood drug and alcohol rehabilitation center opening in the Norma Triangle has raised a lot of emotions distracting us from what I would consider a more troubling issue.That larger issue is the city’s encouraging the commercialization of our residentially zoned neighborhoods, allowing the conversion of housing for commercial purposes. It has been the City’s active encouragement of the commercialization of our neighborhoods that has directly to KLEAN’s purchase of the Hilldale units from the San Vicente Inn.

LA Passes Outdoor Smoking Ban

By WeHo News Staff, West Hollywood, California (January 21, 2010)The city of Los Angeles closed its 18 month long trek to improve public health surrounding restaurants by banning smoking within ten feet of open air dining areas and entrance/exits.The measure also bans smoking within 40 feet of mobile food vendors and trucks. The bill passed unanimously and goes into effect in 30 days. West Hollywood’s city council directed staff to craft an outdoor smoking ban that would include both bars and nightclubs, as well as possibly on sidewalk areas of West Hollywood
