As you may have heard, President Obama announced today that he would be opening up parts of the Outer Continental Shelf for offshore drilling.

While this may sound like welcome news, don’t be fooled. The reality is that what the President announced today amounts to just another great speech with no concrete action behind it.

The President’s plan actually pushes back offshore drilling until at least 2012 and blocks drilling in the Pacific Ocean and parts of the Atlantic. He also leaves off limits those portions of the Gulf of Mexico where experts believe there is the most oil and gas.

President Obama is asking us to trust him to proceed with drilling in the future, even though his administration has imposed one delay after another on responsible American energy development.

At 6:30pm ET tonight, Speaker Gingrich will be responding to the President’s drilling announcement at a townhall event in St. Petersburg, FL. You can watch it live right here.

President Obama’s decision will trigger a public comment period where Americans can offer their opinion on the administration’s plans. As with the last comment period, we will be asking our members to submit comments to the Department of Interior supporting more offshore drilling.

When the next comment period begins, we will pass along detailed information on how you can voice your opinion for more offshore drilling, and we hope you will continue to be part of the fight for m American energy.

Thanks for everything you do.

Sincerely,

I got this letter from Julian Mann of First Pacific Advisors, LLC who’s a political aquainence of mine who’s ideas are in line with expanding our economy in pragmatic ways opposed to progressive ways. Very interesting and the related articles offer many different sides to the story. Either way, I’m a big fan of www.anga.us so please go there and learn how you may do even more to stave off the dreaded ‘cap & trade’ legislation that only adds more big government to an already time consuming and expensive bureaucracy.
