SUNSET STRIP GROUNDBREAKING means adding capital value and more civic pride in #Weho
SUNSET STRIP GROUNDBREAKING
The Sunset Strip in West Hollywood is getting its first facelift in 75 years, and city officials gathered last Wednesday at the Whisky A Go Go for a groundbreaking ceremony to hail the overhaul of one of the nation’s most famous stretches of road.
City officials, members of the local business community and some legendary rockers came together and reflected on the Strip’s history and what they think about a repaving of the boulevard, along with other improvements, to help it last another generation.
The six-month project will include roadway resurfacing with rubberized asphalt; replacement of broken and damaged sidewalks; traffic signal upgrades; landscaped medians; development of “tree districts;” sidewalk widening at Sunset Plaza; and pedestrian walkway improvements.
The project will improve the 1.6-mile stretch of Sunset Boulevard from West Hollywood’s western boundary near Cory Avenue to the eastern border near Harper Avenue. The project will be implemented in three phases, which will each take about two months:
- Alta Loma Road to the city limit east of Harper Avenue;
- The westernmost section of Sunset from the city limit west of Cory Avenue to San Vicente Boulevard;
- and then San Vicente Boulevard to Alta Loma Road.
