January 26, 2010

Dear Friends and Neighbors:

New Year’s has always been a time for looking back to the past, and more importantly, forward to the year ahead. It’s a time to reflect on the changes we want (or need) to make, and resolve to follow through on those changes. But, if you’re like most of us, it’s merely time for a new start…of old habits.

The year has gotten off to a rip-roaring start, and doesn’t look like it will slow down anytime soon. In the first three weeks of the new year, I hosted a welcome reception at Fairfax High School with for Steve Zimmer, our newest School Board Member at Los Angeles Unified School District. I also presented the Keeper of the Dream Award at this year’s Martin Luther King Day celebration at the House of Blues. And, flew to Sacramento to participate in the California Contract Cities Association (CCCA) Legislative seminar, where I testified before the State Assembly Judiciary Committee on behalf of a Senate Resolution calling for the repeal of the discriminatory military policy known as “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”

Additionally, the City, last week, broke ground on the $5.4 million dollar face lift of the world famous Sunset Strip, slated to be completed in six short months, just in time for the Sunset Strip Music Festival in August.

So, as you can see, the new year is not about to slow down in the least. And if you made any New Year’s resolutions this year, I hope you were better at keeping them than I. I can’t even remember what mine were.

Welcome to 2010! Here’s to a great year,
