Contemplate writing a codicil that has this language:

Codicil to my Last Will & Testament

Upon my passing my estate’s executor will cause my estate to hire the services of a private investigator to investigate the events leading up to my death or incapacitation, the cause of my death or incapacitation, and to then, if a murder or negligence was committed or occurred, hire the services of the appropriate lawyer to prosecute to the fullest extent of the law anyone complicit, indirectly or directly in my demise or incapacitation. I do this for the satisfaction and closure of all parties (my heirs, family, friends, the authorities, life insurance company, the coroner and the IRS) should any of the aforementioned not be of the financial means or interest to do so.

This makes anyone a bad target for ‘foul play’ provided they plan their expenses carefully so that such funds exist. Of course, making this widely known to those who may do you harm is the point making this a strong deterrent. And if your killer didn’t know you had this language in a codicil then imagine the look on that snake’s face when they realize they had swallowed a porcupine.

Of course, check with your attorney to see that this language is appropriate for your circumstances as it is unusual, but its all a matter of how you may want to be remembered should you pass due to having met the wrong people.
