Sunset Strip Beautification Project Update
For Week of 01/12/10 to 01/15/10

Work hours: 9:00 am – 4:00 pm, Monday-Friday
Location: between Sweetzer Ave. and Alta Loma Rd.

Construction will start on three (3) bus pads located on the north side of the street. This will affect traffic in the west bound direction. The bus pads are located as follows:

Sunset – just west of Sweetzer Ave (north side of street)
Sunset – just east of Kings Rd (north side of street)
Sunset – just west of the Miller Dr/La Cienega intersection (north side of street)

MTA has set up temporary bus stops for those who board buses at these locations. Work includes saw cutting into the concrete pavement, preparing a solid base for the foundation and pouring of new concrete bus pad to the grade of the new street.

On Friday, January 15th, they plan to pour the new concrete for the bus pads. It will take seven (7) days for the concrete to harden enough to put the volume of traffic back on the roadway. While this concrete is hardening, in the areas of the new bus pad will be reduced down to one lane in the westbound direction. When possible the area will be reopened to two (2) lanes of traffic. Eastbound traffic will have both lanes open to traffic. These westbound lanes will return to two lanes of traffic on January 22nd.

This week there will be some excavation for a storm drain catch basin that will be installed at Sunset & Kings Rd. Work will involve digging to where the storm drain pipe is in Sunset Blvd, and connecting the new pipes to the existing storm drain system. This work is expected to be finished on Tuesday, January 19th.

Preparatory work for the sidewalks will occur this week. This includes saw cutting of damaged sidewalks, curbs, driveways, etc. No concrete will be removed this week.

All businesses will be open to their normal business hours.
